Bob and Sue Leirdahl, owners of MegaCars dba AAMCO Transmissions along with the assistance of the AAMCO Girls of Puget Sound (consisting of Sue Leirdahl, daughters and AAMCO women employees) donated a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo to a Fort Lewis Wounded Soldier and his family on March 17, 2009 at the Lakewood/Tacoma AAMCO Transmission Center.

The Fort Lewis Soldier was injured in Iraq and diagnosed with a Traumatic Brain Injury. He returned home to his expectant wife and two children. The AAMCO Girls of Puget Sound learned about the wounded soldier through an organization called Operation Homefront of Washington. This organization supports our troops and families in their time of need.

AAMCO Transmissions of Puget Sound (Lakewood/Tacoma, Olympia, Puyallup, and Bremerton Centers) offer discounted automotive repairs to soldiers who are involved in the Operation Homefront program. This particular soldier and his family needed transportation to get to and from numerous doctor appointments and were relying strictly on public transportation. The wounded soldier brought his car into the Lakewood AAMCO Transmission Center to get an alternator repaired, but after AAMCO did a complete inspection of the vehicle, they found that the vehicle’s engine needed to be replaced. Due to the year and condition of the vehicle, the cost of replacing the engine would not be worth the expense to Operation Homefront. Bob and Sue Leirdahl had a perfect family owned Jeep that would fit this family nicely, so they informed the AAMCO Girls of Puget Sound to get this Jeep ready for donation to Operation Homefront Washington.

The AAMCO Girls had the Jeep fully inspected by their AAMCO technicians and sought out additional donations from AAMCO’s local business partners who were more than willing to offer their services to honor the wounded soldier and his family for their sacrifice to our country. It’s amazing and very heartwarming to see how many people and businesses want to donate their time and services for such a great cause.
